Billy started working on the sliding glass door malformed airform this week. He took off the columns we had been using to hide the cosmetic problem, and started evening up the foam. He used a long hand saw and trimmed off the excess foam, leveling it up. Then he used more fresh canned foam to fill the holes and voids. Then he trimmed off any excess foam to level. Switching to an electric planer and a belt sander with a coarse belt to level more and shape. Next step was to seal it with elastomeric roofing paint which waterproofs the foam. The last step was to mix STO elastomeric stucco with 50% elastomeric roof paint and roll it on for texture match with the rest of the dome to hide the transition. He will put the round coquina trim back on where it was, without the columns, and then grout them to match the front windows. The same technique will help hide seams and deep pleats around the augments of the windows and doors.

you can see how far off the airform was around the door

this area requires the most extensive foam work, too many pleats

Trimming and gluing the airform down around doors and windows is imperative to keep water out. NP-1 is the best we've found, when it cures you can't tear it off without tearing the airform.

Billy also drilled the hole for the dryer vent and barely missed a conduit and two pieces of rebar to get the 4" vent in place. We have a lot of cleanup to do after jack-hammering through the dome wall. There is white concrete dust everywhere in the laundry room. We were able to keep it out of the rest of the dome by using the pocket door to seal the work off from the kitchen. Just have to clean up and scrub the walls, floors, and every surface in that room.

There is still a lot of finish work that we have been working toward completing. It will all get done, eventually. We'll be doing the trim around the outside back windows, sliding glass doors, kitchen window and back door next. Paying work keeps getting in the way.

We're going to retexture some areas and paint the dome very soon, when there is a 4 day dry spell forecasted. Then it should be storm ready for this season. Then we move indoors for more work upstairs in the master bathroom.
