We bought a used piece of furniture to fill a need in the dining room. I wanted a china cabinet or credenza to hold all the sets of placemats that we have for the big glass table. We have 16 or more of several styles and colors, so it is a big stack of placemats. We also have some really nice serving pieces, trays, bowls, 16 salt and pepper sets, etc. that take up too much space in the kitchen. This unit met those requirements and we asked Richard Green to paint it satin white so it wouldn't stand out too much. It is 37" wide by 75" tall and has shelves in the top and drawers in the bottom. It is great.

The other additions were these great arched window fabric systems. We got them at Home Depot in the vertical blind department in a stand by themselves for temporary window shades. These can be permanent. You just peel and stick the bottom edge to your window frame at the bottom and it fits any window up to 36" tall. I measured the distance to be 34 1/4" on the inside and cut the closed blind with a bread knife. Then I stuck one side and fanned it out so I could stick the other side. It worked great, just had to use my kitchen 3 step ladder to reach the work area. It works like a Chinese hand held fan. We bought two more for high sun areas in the guest bedroom/office and one for the master bedroom. These areas face south and get a lot of heat and sun in the afternoon. The dining room window gets sun until noon, heating up the breakfast area. It was really amazing how much cooler it was after we put up these translucent shades, I was worried there would be too much heat even with the shades, but they are great. They were under $25.00 each at Home Depot.
