The day started early with visitors at the front gate at 9am. Billy and his
Uncle Jack (from California) manned the gate and signed people in for the
tour. Our friends Susan Chadburn, Larry Regier and Phil Baxter helped guide
people around the dome during the day. We had visitors from all over
Florida: Jacksonville, Ft Myers, Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and places
in between. The type of visitor is getting to be a more thin-shelled
educated person. Mostly we had couples who are ready to purchase land and
build their dream home. We spent lots more time talking with these couple
individually and have invited them back for a more intimate workshop in the
near future. We think this will be of more help to people who are closer to
building than trying to talk during a busy open house tour. Many people
stayed for several hours. We had bad weather (80% storms) predicted for the
whole day, but we got some sunshine and visitors wandered the grounds around
the main dome. We had a light lunch for our crew and the visitors that were
there at the time. Discussion around the table was about the usual topics of
financing and insurance. People asked very specific questions and had lots
of positive comments about the dome and how great it was to see one in
person. Several spouses were "brought back from the dark side" after being
in the dome. We met an overwhelming number of kindred spirits that had many
of our same interests and type of lifestyle. Of course, the theatre was the
icing on the cake for the visitors. All of the Q & A sessions ran much
longer in there this year, one ran over an hour. People loved the idea of
the honeybees and were very interested in our edible landscape. We sold a
bunch of E Books and lots of the Safe Harbor Honey that we had on display on
the breakfast bar. It was a very successful day and we made lots of new
friends that will become part of the thin-shelled dome community. We will be pursuing the weekend workshops in the near future and have begun our garage construction for this fall/winter.
