Cleaning up for Dome Tour

September 18, 2003

We are getting ready for the National Dome Tour day on October 18th. Some cleanup has been started to get ready for the final sand coat on the interior of the dome shell. After that, we'll put the plumbing into the floor and also the electric, then pour the concrete first floor.

It doesn't take long for the mildew to take over the outside of the dome.

It has rained just about everyday this summer, and we've had a lot of tropical storms come through. We're going to spray the exterior to kill the mildew.  This will also prep the airform for the primer and exterior coating. We are still deciding which brand of flexible stucco to use. We are going to stay with the white color to reflect the Florida sun.

The rebound that's left in the dome is below floor level and will be packed and covered with a vapor barrier before we pour the floor.

We have been dealing with my recovery from illness so things have been moving slower than we like. But I am getting back up to speed and have been coordinating the next stages of the construction.

David Bachman stopped by on his way through last week to see the dome.  When he last saw it, it was still enclosed.  He thought it looked cool with the open portico and side door.

If you are able to stop by on October 18th, please email us and let us know.
