Concrete Forms, backfilling

and compacting

December 28 & 29, 2002

Backfilling is a little boring, but essential to making sure that the forms don't expand during pouring. Moving concrete is very heavy and can blow out a weak form. There has to be equal stress from the inside and on the outside of the form.

We rented a tamper from the NationsRent store and are using it to compact the soil under where the rebar will be laid. Wire chairs are put under the rebar to keep it up off the bottom and to make sure there is a substantial amount of concrete under it.
