This was different, building a form for the concrete stairs to be poured into, and having to create something in mid-air.

The second floor is poured at the same time as the stairs, so they have to interconnect with rebar and the concrete flows into the top stair and continues on down to the landing and to the bottom stairs. The result will be a ribbon of concrete hanging in the air with no beams underneath to interfere with the view. All of the wood in these photos are just forms and not part of the final staircase. We are also creating a storage area for the 14' tall Christmas tree under the landing. This stair was inspired by Jim Kaslik's cool concrete stair design. When the stairs are complete, there will be a nautical style tubular railing (aluminum or stainless) around the balcony and descending the stairs.
