Finally the day came that we could pour the concrete on the 2nd Floor. And it happened to be the coldest day in South Florida all season, frost warnings for the Treasure Coast. At 6 am, it was 36 degrees. It warmed up to a blazing 52 by 9am, and it actually got to about 65 in the afternoon. This slowed the process of curing and should be just fine for the concrete. We had plenty of help and visitors, too. The entire staff of Stiles Engineering Group came out to show their support and to see the event. We also had a cookout while they were finishing up the pouring session. We actually poured 19 yards total, stairs and floor. Larry Regier and Kelvin Cooks poured the floor with Larry's pump. (10am till 1:30pm) Steve Koehler and his wife Pam did the finishing work (8 am till 10:30 PM) My parents stopped by and Billy's parents also stopped over to see. We worked way past dark until 10:30 and it was getting pretty cold outside, we brought a small space heater out for us to sit around. It really made a difference in our comfort level. The curing also heated up the dome. It was a very successful day, the Insul-Deck performed flawlessly and the stairs look wonderful. Only 7 days for the jacks to remain in place for safety, and 14 days on the stairs. But we are able to walk on the second floor on Sunday and we'll take some more pictures in the daylight of our new second floor.
